19th June round-up
After a bumper weekend of cricket, here is your weekly London Schools' round-up.
Under 11 beat Dorset by 45 runs
After getting off to a slow start with the bat, London Schools' looked unlikely to break the threee figures mark for their total.
But a late partnership between Henry McCartney (23) and Sachin Rishi Tibarewala, who top-scored with 27*, pulled the Under 11s up to 116.
Sonny Synett (1-7) got his side off to the perfect start, dismissing the Dorset opener with the very first delivery of the innings.
It set the tone for a dominant display with the ball. Yohan Karalliedde claimed 2-8 from his two overs with every bowler claiming at least one scalp.
Dorset were eventually dismissed for 71 just past the 15-over mark.
Under 12 lost to Hampshire by 25 runs
After winning the toss and electing to bat at Ripsley Park, Hampshire were disappointed to lose a couple of early wickets.
The innings was steadied by Hoare-Nairn who hit 88* at better than a run-a-ball.
Every Under 12 player (except the wicketkeeper) bowled at least two overs and on the whole it was a tight bowling performance. Oscar Parnum and Ben Reffitt were the two bowlers to claim a pair of wickets.
Set a revised target of 178 to win, London Schools' started steadily. Ved Dangar (27) and Oscar Hickman (25) kept the score ticking along before James Lindner came to the crease and top-scored with 41*.
In the end, though, London Schools' fell marginally short of the victory target.
Under 13 tied with Hampshire
After being put into bat, LSCA made a strong start. Opener Prajen Veloopillai (33) played the anchor role whilst Toby Postlewhite upped the ante, hitting 62 from just 43 deliveries.
There was a late flurry of runs too from Bradley Kingston who hit five boundaries in his knock of 32*.
The Under 13s eventually posted a competitive 192-7 from their 40 overs.
In reply there was no doubt that Roy Mattar (3-32) and Rafi Quint (3-23) were the stars but it was a strong all-round bowling performance again.
With Hampshire nine down, neither side were able to snatch victory as the hosts finished on 192-9 from exactly 40 overs before both teams shook hands.
Under 15 lost to Kent by 4 runs (game 1)
Despite Eesa Faheem and Harry McDonagh taking two wickets each, Kent were able to pull themselves up to a toal of 118 from their 20 overs.
It was Faheem who then held the innings together with the bat, scoring 34* at the top of the order.
Despite a knock of 31 from Ollie Villiers in the middle-order, the Under 15s were just unable to keep up the required run-rate to secure victory.
Under 15 tied with Kent (game 2)
In the second game there was, sensationally, another tie!
This time LSCA decided to bat first, posting 124 from their 20 overs at Upchurch.
Joseph Bradshaw hit 39, including two sixes, with Kush Patel adding 29.
In reply the Under 15s took four wickets, three of them by Aarav Rao who also conceded just 11 runs from his three overs.
But in the end Kent were unable to get over the line thanks to a fine fielding performance late in their innings by LSCA.
Academy lost to Hampshire
After being put into field it was a tough afternoon for the Academy side on a flat track.
A Peggie (3-50) was the pick of the bowlers but A Khan also bowled smartly taking 1-33 as Hampshire posted an enormous 298-7 off their 50 overs.
It was a slow start in reply which LSCA could not afford.
That was until Robbie Keaton and Rohail Imman came together at the crease. 'Keeper-batter Keaton hit 71 at just under a run-per-ball but Imman was the star, smashing 119* which included an incredible 10 sixes.
However, even that wasn't quite enough to get the Academy side over the line.
29th-31st May round-up
This weekend we had plenty of matches against county cricket giants Hampshire as well as an Academy double-header against Derbyshire. Here is a round-up of those matches.
Under 12 beat Hampshire by 9 wickets
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Hampshire made a decent start although London Schools’ were delighted with the way they contained their opposition.
Four of LSCA’s bowlers went at less than 3.7 runs per over which meant Hampshire could only post 82 from their 20 overs. Lewin Husband and Max Panwar took the two wickets to fall.
The reply was a brilliant display of professionalism from the young side as they cruised towards their victory target.
Arjun Bhatla top scored with 34 from just 19 balls, including seven boundaries, with Ben Reffitt also finishing 23* as London Schools’ chased the total down in just 11.5 overs.
Under 14 lost to Hampshire by 8 wickets
It was a tough day at the office for the Under 14 side who were never able to get going with the bat against Hampshire who bowled very well.
London Schools’ were only able to creep to 51 before being bowled out with four balls in the innings left.
Early wickets from Neharen Inpan (1-6) and Tom Richards (1-16) gave the Under 14’s some hope but ultimately Hampshire’s middle order knocked off the target with relative ease.
Under 15 beat Hampshire by 113 runs
Batting first, Hampshire reached a strong total of 212 before being bowled out in the final over of their innings.
With the ball Daniel McGowan was the stand-out, taking 3-41 from his seven overs. Aarav Rao also performed well, claiming figures of 10 overs, one maiden, 2-27.
Opener E Faheem got the reply off to the perfect start, hitting a half-century which included 11 boundaries.
Those around him, however, struggled to get going and when Faheem fell for 57 it was always going to be an uphill battle.
The Under 15 side ultimately fell well short of the target.
Academy beat Kent by 9 wickets
After winning the toss and choosing to bowl, London Schools’ made good use of the conditions against a strong Kent side.
Opening bowler Krish Anand was excellent, taking 3-26 from his seven overs. He was well supported by James Ronay (2-13) and George Taylor-Yeates (2-18) on a day where all of the bowlers performed well.
Finchley’s Willian Leggett led the reply to Kent’s 157 expertly, hitting 79 from 81 delivers which included eight fours and three sixes.
He was well supported by Jed Crerar (36) and Shashank Lokesh (27*) as London Schools’ cruised to the victory target.
Academy lost to Derbyshire by 38 runs
Despite losing the toss, Derbyshire made a good start with one of their openers passing fifty.
London Schools’ showed great fight, though, with George Taylor-Yeates the pick of the bowlers, taking 2-21 from his four overs. Yuvresh Malhotra also took 2-22 from his three overs as Derbyshire reached a total of 156-4.
Brij Sheopuri was the stand-out performer with the bat in reply and top-scored with 35.
Ultimately the Academy side fell well short of the victory target with no other batter passing 20 on the day.
Academy lost to Derby by 9 wickets (match 2)
In the second game, which was reduced to 12 overs per side, London Schools’ performed much better with the bat in hand.
Vaansh Jani was the stand-out, smashing an incredible 92 from just 46 deliveries.
Despite Nabil Moughal (1-28) taking an early wicket for the Academy side in reply, Derbyshire’s numbers two and three produced a strong partnership to take the game away from the visitors.
The home side eventually reached the target with just over two overs to spare.
Under 15 beat Gloucestershire by 2 runs
After being put into bat, the hosts made a decent start at Finchley with Narzm Mohammed playing a watchful 16.
Lots of batters made starts but just couldn’t kick-on with skipper Teddy Barnett (25) the only one to make it past 20.
Despite only making 150, London Schools’ produced a mightily impressive performance in the field to ensure victory despite a rain delay which saw a DLS target set.
An early run-out by Daniel McGowan set the tone for a fielding display which yielded five more run-outs.
Barnett was the star with the ball too, taking 2-9 from his three overs.
The visitors were just three runs from their revised target when the final wicket fell from the penultimate ball of the innings to seal a memorable, hard-fought victory.
Sunday 21st round-up
Thankfully the weather was much more on our side this week with three sides getting full matches in. Here is your weekly round-up of all of the games.
Under 12 beat Dorset 4 wickets
London Schools' decision to win the toss and bowl proved to be the correct decision as Nathan Bridge (3-17) picked up two early wickets.
H McCartney (2-12) kept the pressure up on the Dorset middle order but there was a late revival to come courtesy of the hosts' Thomas Sclater who hit 27*.
Opener Arun Slatter hit 25 in reply for London Schools' and was well supported by Krish Thapar (34). Despite a couple of wickets falling, McCartney and Bareham saw the Under 12's home to victory.
Under 13 beat Hampshire by 5 wickets
Hants got off to a good start with both openers setting a solid foundation for their side. Ethan Spencer (1-13) eventually made the breakthrough and from there London Schools' didn't look back.
Toby Postlewhite ripped through the middle order, claiming 3-20 from his five overs. He was well supported by Neel Dandekar (2-12) along with the rest of the bowlers who all proved miserly in terms of economy.
Dandekar then led from the front with the bat, hitting 30 from 50 balls. Number four batter Reehan Magoon (24) and Adarsh Bedi (34*) kept the score ticking along nicely and the Under 13's eventually reached the victory target with five wickets in hand.
Under 14 lost to Cambridge by 7 wickets
Zain Yousaf and Olly Pryce-Jones carried on their fine form after London Schools' won the toss and chose to bat at Shenley Cricket Centre.
Yousaf hit 39 before Pryce-Jones fell narrowly short of his half-century after being dismissed for 48.
The lower order carried the hosts to 160 all out from just under 43 overs.
They made a good start with the ball too as Vajran Srividyanandan (1-24) claimed an early wicket up top.
However, that brought Cambridge skipper Reuben Thain to the crease and he hit 86 at better than a run-a-ball to take the visitors to the victory target.
Sunday 15th round-up
Sadly it was a weekend dominated by the weather for London Schools’ sides with only two games completed before the rain hit.
Under 11 lost to Cambridge by 36 runs
After winning the toss and batting first, Cambridge’s openers provided their team with a strong start. A few late wickets for LSCA meant the hosts went on to post 132-2 from their 20 overs.
In reply the London Schools’ openers started just as strongly, both retiring not out on 22 and 25 respectively. But the middle order were unable to kick-on towards the target as the visitors finished 96-3 after 20 overs.
The second game between the sides fell foul to the rain.
Under 12 match vs Cambridge abandoned
Under 13 match vs Kent abandoned
There was only time in this game for Kent’s first innings where they posted a strong 287-6 from their 40 overs thanks to two centurions.
Rohan Veraitch (2-43) was the pick of the bowlers for London Schools’.
Under 14 lost to Kent by 105 runs
Kent’s decision to win the toss and bat was vindicated as they went on to post a massive 359-6 from their 45 overs.
Opening bowler Peter Nedeljkovic was the stand-out with the ball, claiming 3-50 from his nine overs with Zafar Saiyed also taking a pair of wickets.
Zain Yousaf started well with the bat in reply, hitting 45 before being adjudged LBW. Olly Pryce-Jones anchored the innings for the visitors as he struck 71 from 82 balls including seven fours and one six.
Even with the support of Nicky Elson (64), Pryce-Jones’ knock wasn’t quite enough to see LSCA over the victory line.
Under 15 match vs Cambridge abandoned
Academy match vs Northants abandoned
Aarush Bahel claimed an early wicket to set London Schools’ on their way after Northants won the toss and elected to bat.
Yuvresh Malhotra starred with the ball and in the field, taking three wickets and a run out before the weather prevented further play.

One of the things we are most proud of is the level of coaching and expertise our players receive. This week the boys had our new president, Daniel Bell-Drummond, former England opener Michael Carberry and ex-Sri Lanka international Keerthi Ranasinghe on hand to help work on their games.

Bell-Drummond named new London Schools' president
London Schools’ Cricket Association are pleased to announce Daniel Bell-Drummond as our new president.
Bell-Drummond takes over the position from Mike Selvey who has stepped down from the role to focus on other commitments.
The England Lions opener, who was recently named Kent’s white ball batsman of the year, is a former LSCA player who played his club cricket with Catford Wanderers.
Bell-Drummond said: “It’s a great honour to accept the post as president. My first-ever representative game of cricket was for LSCA as a 7-year-old playing Under 10’s.
“Over the years it has given opportunities to young people from all backgrounds to experience good, quality cricket. It goes without saying that I am very excited to be a part of the organisation moving in the right direction and hoping to produce more cricketers at all levels of the game, from club cricket to professional level.”
On his departure from the role, Selvey said he was excited to see where the organisation will go under the leadership of Bell-Drummond.
Selvey said: “I'm very proud of way LSCA has moved forward in the last five years. In passing the baton on to the new president, the organisation is acquiring not just a brilliant cricketer and LSCA alumnus, but a fantastic young role model for all our age groups.
“He is a perfect choice to drive the organisation to greater things and help produce top-class young players ready to take the next step.”
London Schools’ chairman Grahame Selvey-Clinton said he was delighted to secure Bell-Drummond’s services for the organisation.
Selvey-Clinton said: “We are privileged to have Daniel as our new president. He has been a former London Schools’ player and has strong family connections to a south London club.
“His knowledge as a current, outstanding professional cricketer will bring a wealth of experience about the modern game and we look forward to working with such a high profile and respected individual.”
The chairman also expressed his thanks to Selvey for his commitment to LSCA.
Selvey-Clinton added: “I would like to thank Mike for the hard work and unflinching support he has given to London Schools’. He is someone who has London schools and cricket in London very much at his heart.
“I know he will always be there to help and advise if we need him. On a personal note, I have relied on his sage advice and will miss him greatly.”
We wish to thank Mike for his tireless work and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. We also look forward to working closely with Daniel moving forward.

Spoils shared in London Schools' cup final
Finalists Alleyn's & Westminster School 1st XI shared the London Schools' Cup Cricket after rain ruined any chance of the teams getting onto the pitch.
Both sets of staff did all they could to get the game on but in the end the weather was sadly against them. In an exemplary display of sportsmanship, the schools agreed to share the plaudits.
Running school competitions is hugely important for LSCA as an organisation. We hope to continue to expand this programme so that more schools in London have the opportunity to compete against each other.

Meet the coaches video call
We are living in challenging times and now more than ever we want to care for our young people - it’s a big part of #TheLSCAWay of doing things.
In 'normal' times they would already have spent lots of time together in the nets preparing for the upcoming season but with Covid-19 restrictions that hasn't been possible.
That's why this weekend (13 Feb) our amazing coaches hosted video calls with LSCA youngsters to allow them to get to know each other better. There were lots of great questions put to our coaches which kept them on their toes too!
We hope our parents and players enjoyed the calls as much as the coaches did!
